Benefits Overview

Health Insurance

We believe our ongoing success requires a strong dedicated workforce. All full time co-workers who are scheduled to work over 30 hours per week are eligible to enroll in the Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield Health and Dental Insurance plans. The effective date of insurance coverage is the first day of the month following the co-workers date of hire. The Coordinating Center contributes 100% towards everyone’s dental insurance coverage. The Coordinating Center contributes 100% to the "co-worker only" costs to Carefirst’s HMO plan, Blue Choice. Co-workers may select to upgrade their health insurance plan and enroll in Carefirst’s PPO plan, Blue Preferred, for an additional deduction amount from their paycheck. Co-workers have the ability to add their spouse and eligible dependent children to their health insurance plan. All health insurance premiums are deducted from the co-worker’s bi-weekly paycheck on a pre-tax basis

Flexible Work Environment & Paid Leave

The Coordinating Center’s flexible work environment is enhanced with various paid leave options (vacation, holidays, sick and personal days). Paid vacation leave is accrued at 10 working days per calendar year for the first year of employment. On your first anniversary date, paid vacation leave is accrued at the rate of 15 days. Although co-workers earn paid vacation and sick leave, newly hired co-workers have a waiting period until these benefits are available. For example, vacation and personal leave accrues from the co-worker’s date of hire but may not be granted with pay until the co-worker has completed 90 days of employment. Holidays will be observed by closing the administrative office on these recognized holidays:

• New Years Day
• Martin Luther King’s Birthday
• President’s Day
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Columbus Day
• Veteran’s Day
• Thanksgiving Day
• Day after Thanksgiving
• Christmas Day

Paid sick leave is accrued annually at the rate of one working day per month and a maximum of 20 days may be carried over to the new calendar year. Co-workers receive three personal days per calendar year, but may not be granted with pay during the first 90 days of employment.

Telework Option

Dependent on the co-worker’s work responsibilities after completing six months of employment co-workers with good performance ratings may be eligible for the telework agreement permitting co-workers to work out of the office for up to three days per week.

403(b) Savings Plan

All full-time co-workers are immediately eligible to enroll in our 403(b) savings plan. The 403(b) plan encourages co-workers to save money on a "tax deferred" basis. Typically, there is no tax due on the amount of money you save or the earnings from your investments until withdrawals are begun after age 64. The plan provides co-workers with several investment options and all co-workers receive free consultation services from the retirement specialist to assist with their financial investments and in the development of a retirement savings plan.

Disability Insurance

The Coordinating Center contributes 100% of the premium providing Short Term Disability (STD), Long Term Disability (LTD) and Life Insurance to all full time co-workers. The Life Insurance policy is "Term Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance" which provides co-workers with benefits equal to their annual salary up to $50k. This term life policy coverage terminates when your employment ends. Both the STD and LTD disability plans are designed to partly replace income lost during periods of disability resulting from injury, sickness, or pregnancy. The STD plan will pay 60% of your gross monthly earnings, subject to a maximum amount of $1,500 per week for up to 13 weeks. The qualifying (waiting) period for disability due to sickness or pregnancy is seven (7) days with benefits starting the 8th consecutive day of disability. Disability due to an accident is zero (0) days with benefits starting the 1st day of disability. The LTD plan will pay you 60% of your gross monthly earnings, subject to a maximum of $5,500 per month if you become disabled. The waiting period to receive LTD benefits is 90 days from date of disability.

Life Insurance

The Coordinating Center contributes 100% of the premium providing all full-time co-workers with a convertible life insurance policy for $20,000. This Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance policy allows co-workers to convert their life insurance policy into an individual insurance policy when their employment ends. Unlike the term life insurance policy, co-workers have the option of converting this policy when they end their employment with The Coordinating Center by maintaining the monthly premium payments.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

Co-workers may enroll in the tax savings reimbursement accounts. Medical reimbursement accounts of up to $3,000 allow co-workers to reserve money on a pre-tax basis to cover uninsured or non-reimbursed eligible medical expenses. This may include insurance deductibles, co-pays, orthodontia, eyeglasses, contact lenses and the like. New co-workers are not eligible to participate in the FSA medical savings account prior to the completion of 90 days of employment. Effective the first day of the month following the date of hire, our dependent care reimbursement account allows single parents and households where both spouses work, to set aside up to $5,000 of income on a pre-tax basis for eligible child and elder care expenses.

AFLAC Supplemental Insurance

Co-workers may enroll in one of three AFLAC voluntary supplemental insurance programs: Personal Accident Expense, Personal Cancer Protector Plan and/or Dental Plan. These voluntary plans require 100% co-worker contributions deducted on a pre-tax basis through bi-weekly payroll deductions. These programs pay cash directly to the co-worker to help recover the indirect expenses associated with illness, injury or eligible dental work..

Direct Deposit

Co-workers may elect to have their bi-weekly paychecks deposited directly into the financial institution of their choice within the first 30 days of employment. This time-savings benefit is found most helpful by eliminating the need of co-workers to make it to the bank on paydays.

Professional Development Opportunities

The Center recognizes that the skills and knowledge of its co-workers are critical to the success of our organization. Based on our funding eligible co-workers have a choice each year to participate in either the Tuition Reimbursement Program (both undergraduate & graduate level courses) or the Conference, Seminar & Workshop Program.
