The Coordinating Center works hard in the community to speak for the people we serve and to involve staff members and clients in opportunities to improve services and to foster full community integration of people with special needs.
Much of what the organization is able to do comes from our contributors and organizations that provide grant funding. The Center publishes a newsletter for clients and family members that offers resources on a variety of community services. Coordinators have developed a database of specialized services and contacts to assist families who come to The Center with a variety of requests for information. Staff members also tap into available resource data bases – local and national – to guide people to the information that they need.
The Coordinating Center can be found at most conferences and expos where people with specialized needs are likely to be as well. From parent information nights to national events, The Center is available to provide information and make our publications available. Additionally, Coordinating Center staff members are called upon to share expertise and experience in the policy arena with respect to the people served by The Center.
A unique aspect of The Center’s community services is found in The Family Resource Fund, a direct outgrowth of the organization's commitment to its core philosophy. With the goal of assisting families in emergencies when no other source of funding can be located, the fund was originally established by staff members to provide that single service or item that makes the difference in crucial situations.
