Millersville, Maryland – The Coordinating Center, Maryland’s statewide, premier nonprofit care coordination organization for children and adults with disabilities and complex needs is excited to announce that the Maryland Department of Health has once again awarded The Coordinating Center as the prime contractor for the Rare and Expensive Case Management (REM) Program statewide. The REM Program is a component of HealthChoice, Maryland Medicaid’s managed care program for individuals participating in Medicaid. REM provides integrated coordination services for people with specialized health care needs that are rare in occurrence and expensive to treat. To be eligible for the REM program participants must be eligible for Medicaid and have a specialized health care need that meets the designated criteria for the program. Length of participation in the program is diagnosis driven, individuals may participate from infancy up to age 64.
A new requirement this year for the REM contract, which begins March 2, 2020, is the mandate from the Maryland Department of Health that the prime contractor subcontract a portion of REM Case Management Services to a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE). Subcontracting to a MBE ensures that small minority and women-owned businesses have the opportunity to participate fully and fairly in the procurement process. After a comprehensive search and interview process, we are excited to announce that The Coordinating Center has two new MBE partners who will join the REM program: Medicalincs, LLC and Gant Global Services, Inc. “Both companies share The Coordinating Center’s values and deep commitment to person- and family-centered care.” said Teresa Titus-Howard, PhD, MHA, MSW, President/CEO of The Coordinating Center.
Medicalincs was founded by Dr. Nkem Okeke, a physician with more than 20-years of health care experience and person-centered care and Gant Global Services was founded by Helen L. Gant, a retired Colonel, U.S. Army Nurse Corps officer, a senior healthcare executive and program manager. “Both Dr. Okeke and Ms. Gant are exceptional leaders and highly skilled in population health management. It is an honor to work with these women on improving the health and lives of REM program participants. Together we will continue to provide exceptional care coordination services for people with specialized health care needs,” said Dr. Titus-Howard.
