Jalisa Powell Completes Towson University Professional Leadership Program

Jalisa Powell, Community Transition Liaison and Training Coordinator at The Coordinating Center, recently completed the Towson University Professional Leadership Program for Women, a professional development program dedicated to increasing the capacity for leadership and influence for women leaders in Greater Baltimore. Towson University honored Powell and the entire 2017 class at a ceremony held May 23 at the Towson University Marriott Conference Hotel.

Powell joined The Coordinating Center in January 2013 as a Hospital Transition Liaison and Health Coach for The Center’s GET WELL program. Powell identified and recruited West Baltimore residents who were in the hospital and had a high risk of being rehospitalized for the same chronic illness or condition. Her compassionate demeanor and ability to quickly connect with individuals resulted in a 20 percent increase of participation in the GET WELL program. In November 2014, Powell stepped into a new role as a Quality and Outcomes Management Specialist at The Center. She participated in the design, revision, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the organization’s quality plan, analyses insurance, government regulatory statues, contract requirements and agency standards to identify areas for quality improvement and serves as a member of The Center’s Quality and Outcomes Management Council. In July 2016, Powell took on the new role of Community Transition Liaison and Training Coordinator. She trains and supports coworkers who are working with local hospitals to reduce readmission rates.

Powell was one of 23 participants to complete the leadership development program, a five-month hands-on learning and coaching program focused on improving leadership skills in women. The Towson University Professional Leadership Program attracts women from across industry, government, and non-profit sectors serving in a wide array of capacities within their organizations. Towson University’s program is open to early- and mid-career women who are committed to increasing their capacity for leadership and influence within their organizations and communities.
